Northern light chase in Skibotn
Northern Light Tour at Camp Skibotn offers you possibility to observe Aurora Borealis in beautiful nature by the river Skibotnelva.
While waiting for the lady to appear, we can meet the local family of reinder herders, help feed the reindeers, and learn about their way of living of the nature.
At the camp there is a lavvo (tepee) or small cabin where you can keep yourself warm. There local host serves you hot drinks and snacks. Thermal overalls can be borrowed if needed. Note that there is toilet facilities as well.
In Skibotn probability to see the lights is very good due to dry microclimate and large open area towards the north. Here it tends to be less clouds than in surrounding areas, that is why it is chosen as the place for Norwegian Center for Space Weather.
We will also enjoy a hot meal at the camp, a locally made reindeer soup “Bidos”. Vegetarian, gluten & lactose free alternative is available as well, just let us know when booking.
If weather changes at the camp and it seems much better in other areas, we move forward. In that case we would stay along the roads.
